CAMPAIGN UNIVERSITY
In preparation to the European Parliament Elections 2009 ECOSY will organise at the Summer Camp 2008 a special Campaign University. This University has the objective to empower member organisations and activists in order to set up strong local and national election campaigns for 2009. ECOSY veterans with specific party political campaign strategy experience will be asked to take on the role of advisors in this university, an open call for registration will be made in February 2008 and the university coordinators will organise it. The newly established ECOSY Pool of Trainers will give methodological support and the PES communicators network will be invited to contribute. This University will encompass following elements:
- Best local and national campaign practices
- Devising strategies to “outsmart” centre right and conservative left in campaigns
- Devising main campaign messages
- Usage of mass media and internet
- Capacity building of campaign activists
- Capacity building of young (women) candidates
- ECOSY support in the 2009 elections
MANIFESTO UNIVERSITY
On the basis of the ECOSY Manifesto 2009, to be adopted before the ECOSY SC08, ECOSY will organise a special program to disseminate its content amongst member organisations and activists. As the name “University” implicates this seminar will provide a analysis of current European Affairs and offers a in deep assessment of the topic stipulated in the ECOSY manifesto, in order to empower member organisations and activists to strengthen their content election profile. In February an open call of manifesto experts will be made, young experts on social and economic development in the EU and its member states, and the university coordinators will organise it. Furthermore, European Foundations and Thinks Tanks will be asked to support this university, as well as the to be established PES Foundation. Elements that will be discussed are:
- Social and economic developments
- Globalisation and fighting poverty
- Demographic challenges, migration and integration
- (European) Welfare state(s)
- Public service provision
- Climate changes
